Welcome to a special winter holiday edition of The Closer.

In the giving spirit of the holidays, we packaged up some inspiration in the form of 10 New Year’s Resolutions for Sales Pros. Some of the advice might feel regifted, but it doesn’t make it any less valuable.

New Year’s Resolutions aren’t known for their longevity, but we’ve compiled a unique list that we think you’ll be very motivated to keep – especially if you like winning.

  1. Embrace healthy habits. Success is more about the small things you choose to do every day that eventually compound into healthy deals and big results.
  2. Be more productive. The average rep only spends about a third of their time selling. Don’t be average. Find ways to automate tedious and repetitive tasks.
  3. Learn a new skill. Keep your mind sharp by continuously learning new things. Could you be better at negotiating or giving demos? Invest in yourself and reap the rewards.
  4. Practice empathy. Selling is not about you. It’s about your buyer. Look for every opportunity to step into their shoes to better understand their challenges and concerns.
  5. Build better relationships. Buyers are going out on a limb with a new solution. Take the time to build a solid relationship and gain the trust needed to make a change.
  6. Talk less, listen more. According to Gong, top sales reps listen more than talk. Check your call recordings and make adjustments accordingly.
  7. Set goals. There’s no way to tell if you’re getting better without goals. Break down bigger goals into smaller ones. It might seem like a stupid mind trick, but it works.
  8. Give back. Early in your career there was someone who helped you get to where you are today. You would do anything for them today. Be that person.
  9. Get out of your comfort zone. Successful reps thrive in uncomfortable situations. Take that skill and push yourself to learn, experiment, and adapt.
  10. Read more. You don’t know what you don’t know. Take time to read up on the latest trends and best practices shaping the industry from a reputable source, like The Closer.
